CLIENT CASE STUDY
To transform this property into a sustainable and self-sufficient homestead. We emphasized controlling erosion, improving water systems, and establishing a food forest to create a regenerative and productive ecosystem.
Uvita, Costa Rica
The property faced severe erosion due to improperly managed earthworks, risking soil stability and productivity.
Additionally, the client’s dream of a productive homestead required creating a food forest tailored to their vision of growing cacao alongside over 40 tropical fruit tree species.
To address these challenges, we designed and implemented a comprehensive erosion control strategy. This included drainage systems for roads and swales with an infiltration pond to manage water flow. We stabilized slopes with densely planted vegetation, enhancing soil health and preventing further degradation.
The food forest plan focused on establishing productive agroforestry that created a self-sustaining system which combines biodiversity, food security, and environmental regeneration.
The conceptual Masterplan, integrating all elements of the homestead, from productive zones and water systems to pathways and living spaces.
A detailed map of the food forest design, showcasing swales and carefully planned tree placement of 40+ different species for optimal water management and productivity.
A snapshot of the thriving food forest featuring bananas, cacao, and other tropical crops planted to stabilize the soil and create a sustainable ecosystem.
