CLIENT CASE STUDY

Paul's Family Homestead

Our Focus

To conduct a detailed site analysis and create a Masterplan for a sustainable family homestead in Uvita.

Location

Uvita, Costa Rica

Challenge and Solution

The site’s steep slopes required careful planning to manage stability and water runoff. Protecting the native vegetation and nearby creek was essential, along with maintaining the family’s desired views. The family also needed practical guidance on where to place key features like a meditation hub, yoga shala, and trees for food production.

We addressed these challenges with simple earthworks to stabilize slopes and direct water runoff effectively. The Masterplan identified suitable locations for structures and planting, balancing functionality with the preservation of the site’s natural beauty.

Key Results

Visual site analysis highlighting key erosion issues and slope gradients, guiding the Masterplan’s design for stability and water management.

Transformation of a bare area into a vibrant space with grass and a fireplace for family gatherings.

Precise tree placement based on the site’s characteristics and the unique contributions of each species to the landscape.

A detailed layout illustrating the planned locations for structures, paths, and planting areas in harmony with the natural terrain.

A water management plan showcasing channels and ponds to handle Uvita’s heavy rainfall and safeguard the site.

Handcrafted stone channels and capture ponds, designed to manage water flow and mitigate heavy rainfall typical of Uvita’s climate.
